LP # 4 : Balingkinitan

-----------------------------------------------------

This is my 4th entry to the weekly theme of "Litratong Pinoy" or "Filipino Photos". For this week, the theme is "Balingkinitan" or "Slim, Slender, Thin".

This is a shot of the two Stilt Walkers that we saw one time we went to Mall of Asia. These entertainers are really awesome and should be proud of their job. It's not that easy to stand in steel sticks for hours just to entertain the crowd. They walked around the viscinity and sometimes they run without tilting!...Amazing! :p

Photography 101 : Know more about Exposure

Now, let's talk about Exposure...

EXPOSURE
When you combine the ISO setting, the aperture (or f/stop) setting and the correct shutter speed, you are putting together the pieces of the camera puzzle that create your exposure.

The Exposure is the image created by the light entering the camera and being recorded onto the film or digital sensor. To achieve correct exposure, you need to balance your ISO setting for the lighting situation you are in with the f/stop setting and shutter speed to allow for the correct amount of light to enter the camera.

Exposure is a tricky thing and whole books have been written on getting it correct and then intentionally messing it up for artistic purposes. Most modern cameras now come with some pretty nifty built in “cheats” to give you correct exposures. Most point and shoot cameras handle exposure automatically for you and do a very nice job. Bridge and SLR cameras will also do the heavy lifting for you by shooting in fully automatic modes. They also contain with what are referred to as “Creative Modes” that will adjust your aperture and shutter speeds for certain situations such as sporting events, portraits, landscapes, or night shooting.

Once you have moved beyond the fully automatic and creative mode shooting, bridge and SLR cameras also have a few more tricks to help you achieve your correct exposure (in combination, of course, with the ISO, f/stop, and shutter speed):

The first of these is the built in light meter. Metering is the process of gauging the light and dark areas of your image and correctly aligning the ISO, f/stop, and shutter speed to give you correct exposure. All bridge and SLR cameras give you the ability to change all three settings independently, but thankfully these cameras will also do all the metering math for you with their built in light meters.

Along with the light meter in your viewfinder, you’ll most likely also have several auto-focus points. On most bridge and SLR cameras, you will be able to see your auto-focus points when looking through your viewfinder and focusing on your object or image. These auto-focus points light up to indicate what the lens is focusing on. You can also manually adjust the focus points to accomplish a specific focus (if your subject is not in the middle of the viewfinder, for instance.)

Finally, another factor in exposure is White Balance. Digital cameras will also allow you to set or alter your white balance. Most film cameras handle white balance in the film itself and you purchase your film to match the lighting situation you will be in, whereas most digital cameras will allow you to set or alter your white balance. On a digital camera, you can set your white balance for each image just as you can set the ISO for each image.

White balance is simply a fancy way of setting the color temperature of your image. The human eye is very adept at compensating for color changes in light and allowing us to view light in a very large spectrum. Camera sensors are not quite as intelligent, and they must be told what color the light is for a given situation in order to compensate for that color. For example, morning sunlight is very blue in color while evening sunlight is very yellow. Incandescent bulbs are very orange while fluorescent bulbs are very purple. Each of these settings will affect the color temperature of your photo. To compensate for this, all digital cameras come with some pre-set white balance settings such as Auto, Daylight, and Tungsten, among others. Properly setting your white balance for your lighting situation will greatly increase the impact of your photos and decrease the amount of time you spend editing them.

Obviously, we are just skimming the surface when talking about Exposure. We will address it again in future articles and play around with it in the form of challenges.

Bonding Moments @ The Old Spaghetti House

As one of the 5 lucky grand winners, we were able to finally received our prizes from the Johnson's Baby Cooling Powder Cool Bonding Moments Photo competition. Ms Tin Bernal of Global Media Consulatants reminded me to attend the awarding ceremony held @ The Old Spaghetti House, Valero St. Salcedo Village Makati last June 7. Call time was 2:30pm. Since we're still coming from Novaliches, I ensured to leave the house @ an earlier time. I just asked my sil to accompany us (hays, hirap talaga ng wala si hubby) on the venue since we're allowed to bring 2 more additional guests. Good thing we arrived on time though 2 families were already on the said venue. At least were not the last because the 2 other winners were not there yet...hehe :p

They provided us with food while waiting for the other winners. The pastas from this resto were quite good. The adults got a carbonara & the kids got the typical spaghetti, both served with pepperoni pizza on the side and a glass of iced tea.

As soon as the rest of the winners were already complete, Tin & her colleague started giving out the prizes to all the winners. I let Sam to received the prizes. She's very delighted not on the trip to Subic for four plus an Ocean Adventure day trip GC's, but to the basket full of Johnson's powder and cologne and a loot from the Cartoon Network!...haha :p

We weren't able to have a group pic of all the winners. Some were a little bit snob to approach each other...hehe! But we were able to got a shot of all the kids. I wonder who was the other winner from GT. I didn't know who she was. I asked her to message me before (from gt forum) so we can meet up on the said event. I have a link there @ the forum so for sure she knows who I was...hehe. But unfortunately, maybe she's also a bit shy to approach me. :p

Again, Thank you to Johnson & Johnson and to Cartoon Netwrok fot this great opportunity of winning in your contest. BTW, the winners were already being aired @ Cartoon Network. Just be a little patient if you want to take a glance of it because it's just being advertise every eight hours. I just saw it once, still catching it to be able to have it video recorded. :p

Sam Decorates Her Own Krispy Kreme Doughnut

"We all love Krispy Kreme Doughnuts"

with the trinoma team

Sam was able to experience on how to design her own Krispy Kreme Doughnut. Good thing she's really in her good mood that time when one of the crew approached our table and invited our little Sam to join them and be part of their little crew. Actually this was the second invitation. The first time was last december pa. Anyway, she cooperates well with Kitkat (store crew) and goes with her for the doughnut decoration. Daddy was the one who took the pictures. The rest of the staff were so amused of her behind the counter. The best part of it was she got her decorated doughnut for free na! Thanks Krispy Kreme! :p

Sam Decorates Cake for Daddy

Sam and I were able to get a cake for her daddy's simple welcome home and birthday party celebration tomorrow. My first choice was supposedly to get a cake from Red Ribbon. I like it more as compared from the cakes of goldilucks though both has a very good impression when it comes to birthday cakes. I was a bit disappointed with the service of Red Ribbon this afternoon. After choosing a nice cake and had it paid already athe cashier, they found out that the cake I purchased was damaged. As what I saw from their display cabinet, it's perfectly preserved and free from any damages they're talking about. Just found out that they're talking about the other cake, another stock from the fridge. I said, how about the one inside the display cabinet, it looks ok and I see nothing bad with the presentation. They immediately told me that It was already reserved by their other customer. I was really annoyed after they told me about it. They should'nt not display any products once it has already been paid. It was really disappointing because I really love their cakes. They even offered me a discount just to keep me from getting the damaged cake. But I said, I don't like it and don't want to purchase a damaged cake. I want something that is presentable for my hubby. After I refunded the payment. Sam & I immediately went to the other cake shop, the Goldilucks. And purchased a new and beautiful cake. I even bought additional flowers and animal candy decors. Sam enjoys decorating her daddy's birthday cake. Can't wait to get a slice of it!...haha!

It's My Brother's Birthday

We celebrated my brother's birthday yesterday. We went out and he treated me and Sam for a sumptous lunch at Dencio's, Trinoma branch. We ordered for a special pansit canton, pork sisig, fish molo soup and bbq chicken. Sam enjoyed the soup and the chicken. My bro received a cup of mouth watering ice cream freebie from his credit card. He just need to charge what we ate to avail the freebie. He just gave the ice cream to Sam and of course, she enjoyed it. We did some shopping after the lunch. Sam enjoys her "laboy" day once again..lol! :p

Sam loves the holiday daughnuts from Krispy Kreme

We got to enjoy the new holiday treats from Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The doughnuts are really good but kinda too sweet for my taste buds...hehehe. I used to eat kasi our very own dunkin & mister doughnuts (internationally known too) and their sweetness is just enough for me. Though the krispy kreme doughnuts are too sweet, it's heavenly luscious! A vey nice treat for all of us once in a while. The doughnut itself actually melts in your mouth (parang m&m..hehe) and just a piece of it is just right enough to satisfy our sweet tooth. Sam just enjoy the toppings and didn't finished her piece. She just got amazed of the cute and colorful decorations.
